Here’s a Step-by-step Guide on How to Get a Medical Card in Miami.
Step 1: Determine Eligibility
In Florida, you first need to confirm that you have a qualifying medical condition. There are many conditions like chronic pain, epilepsy, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, cancer, PTSD, anxiety, and several others that qualify for the state medical registry.
Step 2: Find a Qualified Physician in Miami
You must visit a state-licensed physician who is registered with the state Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). The certified physician will evaluate your condition and determine if you qualify for a medical card.
Step 3: Get Registered
If the physician approves, they will enter your information into the State Registry. The Registry then sends you an email with your login credentials to complete your application.
Step 4: Complete the Application to get a Medical Card in Miami
Log in to the Use Registry using the credentials you provided. You must upload a full-face, color photograph, proof of residency (such as a FL driver’s license or utility bill), and pay the application fee of $75.
Step 5: Wait for Approval
The Florida Department of Health typically processes new applications within 10 business days. Most approvals happen quickly, and many applicants can get same-day medical card approval. Once they approve you, they will send you an approval email. This email is a temporary card to purchase medication while you wait for your physical card to arrive.
Step 6: Visit a Miami Dispensary
Now that you're a legal, you can visit any licensed medical dispensary in Miami (or all of Florida) with your approval email or physical card. Dispensary staff can help you choose the right products for your condition.
Step 7: Renew Annually
Your medical card is valid for one year. You must renew it annually by visiting your physician for re-evaluation and submitting a renewal application.
